RecoveryGuard Beta Protects Your Device From Accidental Updates and Recovery Mode!

f you are stuck in recovery mode, if you accidentally updated your Device with that iTunes Evil Pop message, you need RecoveryGuard Beta. How is it useful? Well, to start with, it prevent your iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch or iPad to enter in recovery mode.

Also, whenever you connect your iDevice with iTunes and a new update is available (like any new iOS version) this tweak guards you from accidental updates by disabling the iTunes notifications. The trick is that RecoveryGuard makes the iTunes think that the iDevice is already updated and doesn’t need any updates.

Why is it useful? Its for all Jailbreakers and Unlockers who sometime update the iDevices without knowing what they are doing. For instance, there are thousands stuck on iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 4 baseband 2.10.04 / 3.10.01. Every Jailbreaker and unlocker should use this to prevent from any accidental updates in the future. iOS 4.2.1 is already out and iOS 4.3 is a few weeks away and you really don’t want to update to the latest iOS 4.3. The update to any new iOS version usually updates the baseband and you end up either on a locked baseband or in some cases no Jailbreak option.

RecoveryGuard can also prevent you from going into recovery mode (Connect to iTunes screen with cable). This can not kick out the devices from recovery mode but it can help you prevent the recovery mode. You can still restore and Jailbreak your Device by putting the iPhone, iPt or iPad in DFU mode (by hold power and home button). So everything remains the same do whatever you want to do, this is just going to prevent you from accident updates and the stuck in recovery mode problem.

I found it helpful for those who are thinking of updating to iOS 4.2.1. Remember, iOS 4.2.1 has a new Baseband condition from Apple which means you can not update to iOS 4.2.1 if you don’t have the baseband came with iOS 4.2.1. In simple words iOS 4.2.1 checks the baseband while restoring the device and if it sees a different baseband it throws the error and you are stuck in recovery mode. So if you have this you will not be bothered by iOS 4.2.1 update option in iTunes or iOS 4.3.

Hackers are already talking about Apple’s new security defense against Jailbreaking, ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization). So to keep yourself away from any accidental update, losing the unlock or jailbreak, follow the procedure below to add this tweak:

Launch Cydia
Go to Manage > Source > Edit > Add
Type in http://cydia.pushfix.info
Once added look go to search and type in RecoveryGuard Beta and install it
